On Tuesday, 14 December 2010, the joint workgroup of the Estonian Internet Foundation and registrars convened to discuss issues connected with the imminent end of the period of re-registration of domains with the Estonian national ending .ee, aimed at improving their register. It was decided unanimously that there is no reason to extend the period.

The scholarships offered by the Estonian Internet Foundation via the Development Fund of the Tallinn University of Technology have been awarded to Business Information Technology student Martin Kurgi and Computer Systems student Andres Põder. The scholarship recipients were selected from among 8 candidates by the joint commission of the Estonian Internet Foundation and the Development Fund of the Tallinn University of Technology.

At 10:10 on Thursday, November 18th, the 20,000th .ee domain was registered after the adoption of the new domain registration procedure. AS Sunorek re-registered the tankstudio.ee and sunorek.ee domains, and the registration application for the latter was number 20,000 in the new domain register.

The Domain Disputes Committee, which forms part of the Estonian Internet Foundation, has issued its first determination, granting the use of the domain bang-olufsen.ee to Bang & Olufsen A/S.

According to the Estonian Internet Foundation data, as of today only 4,000 domain names have been re-registered of the almost 79,000 domain names that were registered in Estonia before 5 July this year and that will expire on 5 January 2011.

On Friday, 27 August 2010, the Estonian Internet Foundation Council convened and passed the decision to establish the Domain Disputes Committee, also summing up the current situation with domain renewals.

Today the 3,000th .ee domain was registered following the transition to the new domain procedure on 5 July 2010. The registration application of the veebikino.ee domain reached the Estonian Internet Foundation via a registrar at 11:07 a.m.

An independent Domain Disputes Committee will start operating under the aegis of the Estonian Internet Foundation that took over the administration of .ee domains in the beginning of July. The committee provides extrajudicial protection against hijacking domain names.

In the first two days since the new system came into effect, 1329 new domain names were registered, which is about as many as were registered in the previous two months combined. As expected, the registrants included many domains registered by individuals, as well as registrations of second and additional domains by companies.

On 5 July 2010, Estonia switched to a new domain system, which was marked by the submission of the first application for registration of a natural person’s .ee domain by Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts. The new domain system will make Estonia’s .ee domains significantly more available than they were previously. Individuals and foreign nationals are now able to register domain names ending in .ee and a person can now register more than one domain. An independent body will deal with any charges of domain hijacking.

Today marked the beginning of the 38th meeting organised by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which brings together leaders of Internet and domain management related organisations from all over the world. The meeting, the 38th since the organisation was founded in 1998, is taking place in Brussels.

Estonian Internet Foundation has set the deadline for the transition to new domain rules on July 5 2010. The new domain regulation will make the .ee ccTLD significantly more accessible: private individuals and foreigners will be able to register .ee domain. One person can register multiple domains.
