.ee Domain Name Trends in the First Half of 2024
Wordcloud of the most popular words used in .ee domains in 2024.
As expected, the most popular keywords in domain names during this period include "auto," "rent," and "Estonia." With autumn approaching, topics related to school and education have once again surged in popularity among Estonians. Interestingly, "Tallinn" has climbed back up the rankings of cities in recent months. Earlier in the year, it had been dethroned from the top spot by the cultural capital "Tartu." The close rivalry between the two cities continues, but by the mid-year point, they stand neck and neck.
Summer has brought many weddings, and this is reflected in domain names associated with the occasion. Notably, keywords related to loans have seen a significant decline in the second quarter, likely indicating reduced demand for such services and an overall improvement in living standards. Additionally, there has been growing interest in keywords related to "studio" and "Nordic" activities. Pride in the (digital) nation is evident, with more references to Estonia appearing in new domain names.

The global popularity of the .ee domain has also grown this year, partly due to the auction of reserved domains that concluded recently. This unique opportunity attracted new international registrants, whose share among new domain owners has noticeably increased.
However, there has been a slight decline in domain renewal rates. Additionally, we’ve observed a shift in preference from 3-year to 2-year registrations, reflecting some uncertainty among domain holders and entrepreneurs. Nonetheless, maintaining a domain is essential for safeguarding your personal or company’s digital identity. Losing it can expose you to various cyber threats. Therefore, we strongly recommend keeping domain registrations updated and considering long-term options for better protection.
