Sunrise period for .EE domain names containing letters with diacritical marks begins today
“The international experience has proved the need for such a sunrise period. There was no sunrise period before introduction of .EU domain names containing letters with diacritical marks in the European Union member-states and this omission attracted speculative purchasers of valuable domain names. The purpose of the sunrise period for the particular .EE domains is to offer companies and physical persons an opportunity to protect those .EE domain names containing letters with diacritical marks that resemble their trademarks, business or product names, by reserving the domain names pursuant to a prior right,” said Marek-Andres Kauts, Chairman of the Management Board of the Estonian Internet Foundation. The sunrise period is a voluntary event.
During the reservation period you can submit applications for reservation of the relevant domain names of the following varieties:
- a business name (including a self-employed person’s business name) entered in the Estonian Commercial Register or a name entered in the register of non-profit associations and foundations;
- a trademark registered in Estonia;
- the surname of the physical person as of the application submission date;
- the first name(s) and surname of the physical person as of the application submission date.

The applicants will then be able to register until 31.12.2011 the domain names entered in the list of reserved domains names as a result of their passing the verification procedure.
The actual registration of .EE domain names containing letters with diacritical marks will opened to all interested persons on a first-come, first-served basis from 13 June 2011. Further information: lubatud.internet.ee
Registration of domain names containing letters with diacritical marks is voluntary. Domain names containing letters with diacritical marks are registered for the same fee as conventional domain names. The fee is set for end consumers by the registrar.
