On 29 October, the most outstanding Estonian-language business and domain names, trademarks, and slogans of 2026 were announced at the Estonian Academy of Sciences. Among this year’s winners of the Estonian Business Name Competition "Ehe Eesti" were not only newcomers but also well-known companies with a long history, including Tere, Matsimoka and Infotar.

This year, exactly 100 name proposals were submitted to the competition. Candidates were evaluated in the categories of manufacturing and service companies, non-profit organisations, newcomers of the year, educational and cultural institutions, student companies, and domain names. For the third year in a row, the best Estonian-language trademarks were also selected, and a public vote determined the people’s favourite. Altogether, 32 names received recognition or a special mention across the different categories.

“The power of a name is often much greater than we might think at first glance. This year, the deep and intriguing stories behind many of the names stood out in particular, showing that Estonian entrepreneurs are investing more and more in finding a good name for their business. Considering the growing competition, this is perhaps not surprising,” said the chairman of the jury, Director General of the Language Board Ilmar Tomusk.

From Matsimoka to Piimajõe: this year’s naming highlights

The title of best Estonian-language manufacturing company name went to meat producer Matsimoka, while the service company category recognised transport and lifting services provider Vahel Veab. In the non-profit category, the winner was Kopli Sörk, which promotes community activity and recreational sport, while among educational and cultural institutions the award went to Uued Horisondid, which organises language cafés and cultural exchange activities.

The newcomer of the year was Silmariim, a provider of graphic design services. Among student companies, Püsi stood out with its young entrepreneurs producing bag holders designed to prevent shoulder bags from slipping.

The title of best national domain name went to ligipääsuke.ee, the domain of Ligipääsuke, a company working on accessibility-related topics. In addition, külmavares.ee and tähenärija.ee, the latter belonging to a provider of quality management services, received special mentions in the national domain category.

The title of most outstanding trademark registered with the Estonian Patent Office went to Kõnetoru, which promotes linguistics. The jury also gave special mentions to Snäkineid, Surakas, Puhu, Reipad Räimed, Hellad Kolumatsid, Näita Keelt, Külmavares, Tähenärija, Pai and others.

The Estonian Patent Office special prize went to Piimajõe, a recently registered trademark owned by Infotar. The name brings together two of the company’s areas of activity: traditional farming and innovative biogas production. The Language Board special prize went to Tanel ja Kanad, a trademark of Tang OÜ operating in Saaremaa.

The best slogan says hello to everyone

This year’s title of best slogan went to dairy producer Tere for its advertising slogan “Tere kõigile” (“Hello to everyone”). The jury also highlighted the student company Püsi’s slogan “Vähem sättimist” (“Less adjusting”) and the real estate portal Haldja’s message “Unistused vajavad aadressi” (“Dreams need an address”).

That a good name can also emerge from a completely unexpected situation was demonstrated by construction company Pooleli, which won the award for best naming story. According to the entrepreneur, the name was born during the company registration process, when none of the originally proposed name options were accepted and the application status repeatedly remained “pooleli” (“incomplete”). What first seemed like an obstacle eventually became the company’s name.

The jury also recognised the naming stories of äio tech, Korralooja and Ruandi, which has a dialect background. The Estonian Language Institute special prize went to the dialect-based naming story of the University of Tartu spin-off Umbekuiva OÜ.

Based on a public vote organised by Delfi Estonia, clothing producer Külmavares won the people’s favourite title, receiving one third of all votes cast for the candidates.

The naming competition, held for the eleventh time, is organised by Emakeele Selts. The jury included representatives from the Estonian Internet Foundation, the Estonian Patent Office, the Institute of the Estonian Language, the Estonian Language Council, the Estonian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Language Board, Junior Achievement Eesti and the Estonian Marketing Association, as well as language editors and Estonian-language teachers.
