What New .ee Domain Names Reveal About Estonia’s Business Landscape

Estonia’s national domain recorded exceptionally strong growth in the second quarter of 2026. By the end of June, the number of registered .ee domains had reached 199,647, an increase of more than 26,000 domains compared with the same time in 2025. The registry passed the milestone of 200,000 registered .ee domains at the beginning of July.

New .ee domain registrations more than doubled

Compared with the same period of the previous year, the .ee zone grew by 15.08%, bringing total growth since the beginning of this year to more than 9.6%. May showed the strongest growth, with more than 10,000 new registrations. This is the strongest growth seen in recent years, signalling increased activity in Estonia’s business landscape as well as the strong international position of the .ee domain.

A total of 25,656 .ee domains were renewed, bringing the renewal rate for the entire .ee zone to 79%. This represents a slight decline compared with previous years, but a small increase compared with the first quarter of 2026. The growth of the .ee domain is therefore being driven mainly by new registrations and a stable retention rate.

Key trends in new .ee domain names

The keywords used in .ee domain names provide a glimpse into Estonia’s changing business landscape.

Practical service sectors remain highly visible. Automotive services, construction, property, rental businesses, online shops and creative studios have appeared prominently among new registrations for some time. This shows that descriptive domain names remain popular: entrepreneurs often choose names that immediately tell customers what the business does.

At the same time, English-language and internationally usable terms are becoming more prominent. Words such as tech, group, service, web, Nordic and Baltic suggest that more companies are choosing names that can work beyond Estonia. Direct references to Eesti remain common, but appear less dominant than in the overall 2025 registration data.

The top 10 words in domain names in the II quarter were:

  • auto
  • 24
  • ai
  • eesti
  • kodu
  • casino
  • ehitus
  • abi
  • rent
  • nord

This may reflect a broader shift in Estonian entrepreneurship. New businesses are still being created in traditional local service sectors, but many are positioning themselves for wider Baltic, Nordic or international markets from the very beginning. As expected, AI has gained immense popularity since the end of last year and continues to strengthen its position this year.

A domain is the foundation of your digital identity

A domain registration may not always represent a brand-new business, but it is a strong indicator of digital business activity. Registering a domain is often one of the first steps in launching a new brand, service, product or campaign.

Securing a domain has practical value even before a website is launched. With more than 200,000 .ee domains already registered, short and commercially useful names are becoming harder to find.

The good news is that thousands of attractive and memorable .ee domain names are still available. On the other hand, the surge in new registrations may mean that competition for strong domain names is tighter than ever. Therefore acting fast can mean securing strategically your online identity.

Make domain registration the first strategic step for your brand and business. Register a .ee domain for up to 10 years through more than 50 accredited registrars.
